Virgo Full Moon Talking To My Virgo Moon

I drove into Niland the other day to dump my tanks, get water, some groceries and gas. The grocery store is basically a convenience store and gas is at an outrageous price. I half closed my eyes while paying for it hoping that would soften the blow but the price for unleaded gas was around $4.39. It is shocking how fast the price has gone up. Definitely keeps me more stationary than I would prefer. I couldn't find anyone to pay at the dump station so that saved me $10.

Coming back into the Slabs felt different than my original entry. It feels like a huge happenin' event has just ended and all that is left are the crashers and the trash. I have heard the months of November, December and January are the best months to be here. I came a little late to the party.

And I am getting a little dirty. I try to keep my face, hands and feet clean but it has been over a week since my last shower. I did wash my hair once using bowls of water but the dust storm blew in and left my hair with more tangles than usual. It is just part of life on the desert.

But my real comfort comes from living within a clean and tidy environment. I can go awhile between showers, but when my home becomes too dusty and dirty I become a bit anxious. I blame this "clean gene" on my Virgo moon. Virgos appreciate order in its many different forms. I love organization bins, cans all in a line and a well swept floor. I find it very peaceful.

So I may be leaving in a few days, traveling onward to a shower and concrete. But I would love to come back.

(I am afraid that I will loose this post if I preview, so excuse any typos)

Experiment

Lately it has been a challenge posting on my blog. I have written several lengthy posts which have vanished into thin air. I have no idea where they went, or how to get them back.

So this is an experimental post just to see if it will publish, or vanish.

Dust Storm

I have sand in my freshly washed hair. I have sand in my eyes. I have sand in my ears. I even have sand in my teeth.

Minnie has sand on the countertops. Minnie has sand on all the windowsills. Minnie has a veritable sand dune forming in the doorway.

The wind blew away one of my shoes. The wind blew one of my chairs underneath Minnie. The wind has rocked and rolled me all day long.

I shut all the windows to keep the dust out and shut myself into an inner inferno. The temperature in Minnie was well into the 90s. I finally covered my hair and body and went into the dust storm for some cooling air. The wind and dust quickly sent me back inside.

This storm has been raging for hours and it will likely take me days to clean out all the dust.

I have promised myself I will never go through this again.

I'm A White Girl

The weather station says it is 81 degrees. Out on the desert it feels so much hotter. Or, anyway to me it does. I can't imagine spending the summer on the Slabs. But some people do.

Me, I'm a white girl. I am more comfortable in the 60s or 70s. I liked those years and I like those temperatures.

Good thing. The heat if nothing else will drive me off these Slabs.

Houston, We Have A Problem

I invited Robi for dinner. I used my microwave for a total of five minutes and had no problem with the generator.
When I tried to turn on the generator again, it was a no go.

Robi checked the oil and there seemed to be no problem. The fuse looked fine. Hmmm.....best to let it sleep overnight and see what tomorrow brings. There are plenty of handy men that can take a look at it tomorrow if it is still having problems. Worst case scenario is I will leave earlier than anticipated, but I am not ready to leave just yet. Having too much fun.

I went to the infamous Range last night (Google was filming, which is a whole nother story), went to the hot mud springs tonight and tomorrow I have plans for an ATV ride.

I have been taking lots of pictures but will have to wait until I can use my laptop before posting.

It's a bit like being at a Mad Hatters tea party:).

At the Slabs

I am here, at the Slabs. Internet connection comes and goes so my posting will be sporadic, but oh, I am having such a good time!

I thought I had lived on the desert before, but now I am really living on the desert. Breathing it and eating it, carrying it in and out of Minnie. Sitting outside and communing with this wide open sky, walking home in a sand filled landscape.

Tonight I went to listen to a jam session and tomorrow I will have my first experience of the Range. I am having such new and unique experiences.

And I am finding that boon docking is not as intimidating as I first thought. My generator works, I have lights and my electrical outlets work. My food is cold, I have running water and a toilet that flushes.

Life is good here on the Slabs.

Dateland, AZ

Nice BIG site
After much thought and research, I decided to spend the night in Dateland.  Thank you for all your suggestions, but this seemed to fit the bill.

Now to get through the wind advisory and into the Slabs.
